Bank Farm Winery, South Oxfordshire

The brief

Based in South Oxfordshire countryside, but along the same chalk line as the Champagne region in France, this is an award winning winery project which Group GA were pleased to be nominated to work on again, following their success with phase one. The building is used not only for the production of wine, but to also offer a welcoming space to visitors and investors. It is a beautifully presented, yet fully functioning setup and includes a conference room, a tasting room, marketing facilities and storage. Group GA were employed to install a number of mechanical and electrical services throughout the building as part of the second phase of the winery.

The project

The greatest challenge with this project was ensuring that as well as making it suitable for the production of wine, the building had to look aesthetically pleasing. In order to achieve this, many of the services that Group GA were installing had to be hidden from view. This involved some clever design and use of materials, for example high level trunking which blends into the ceiling within the barrel room, allowing for lights to be suspended from the vaulted ceiling, without taking away from the steel beam finish.

Group GA installed a number of M&E services, including a cooling system in the barrel room to guarantee a constant temperature of 14°c, internal and external lighting, fire alarm and data systems. We also worked closely with suppliers to provide an extensive audio visual package, CCTV and security.

The result

Kingerlee and the client were both very pleased with the end result, which was completed on time and to a very high standard. The vineyard and the wines being produced are now multi-award winning, gaining recognition with some of the most significant chefs and restaurants in the country, who are not only visiting the winery, but choosing the wines as part of their exclusive menus.
